England's Green Man Festival has invited all bands to join a comp that entitles the winning band to be the opening act of the fest, which will take place in mid-August and features Super Furry Animals, Spiritualized, Iron and Wine and The National, among others. The contest's mechanics are truly 2.0: bands get votes, the most voted band gets the slot and six free tickets, and one voter wins two tix.
Forward-thinking, aye? Erm, yeah, 'cept that it's not exactly the sunset-ushering slot de grace that they're offering here. Opening a festival like this is a bit like being a serving of beetroot salad that begins a 300 course buffet where Wagyu beef, Osetra caviar and Podolico cheese populate the spread. So how would that beetroot salad feel, you ask? A bit beet, I reckon.
